FIRE ACADEMY
In 2003, the Navajo Nation Department of Fire & Rescue Services held its first recruit academy, and so far have conducted two successful programs. The Recruit Academy is a 4 1/2-month long program that is held every year. It consists of over 350 hours of classroom and hands-on field training. This program was designed to develop cognitive and manipulative skills for the new Fire Department Recruit. The course is structured to comply with NFPA 1001 - Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, and is set in a military style environment.
After successful completion of the Recruit Firefighter’s Academy, students will receive college credits through Northland Pioneer College, and are eligible to test with the State of Arizona for their Firefighter I&II certification with IFSAC Accreditation.
